ADD A SACRED DIMENSION TO YOUR WORK:  BECOME A MOHEL

Temple Emanu-El, in cooperation with the Berit Mila Program of Reform Judaism (http://beritmila.org/) is hoping to organize a
course for medical professionals in the Hawaii Jewish community who wish to receive training and certification to perform
circumcisions in the context of the ritual of
berit mila.  Eligible applicants include medical doctors proficient in the performance of
newborn circumcision and certified nurse midwifes who regularly perform newborn circumcisions.  Interested professionals
should contact Rabbi Peter Schaktman (595-7521 or
RabbiSchaktman@aol.com)
ARE YOU PLANNING A TRIP OVERSEAS THIS YEAR?
Whether you are going alone or with others, you can enjoy the trip of a lifetime as you visit historic and
contemporary Jewish sites, attend Shabbat and holiday synagogue services, meet charismatic leaders
and learn about the renewal and expansion of Jewish communities in any of 42 countries that are a
part of the World Union for Progressive Judaism's worldwide family.  Visit the World Union for
Progressive Judaism website,

        TEMPLE GREEN COMMITTEE JUNE REPORT

Shalom!  The committee has been busy fine-tuning our previous endeavors
and planning fun, informative events for the future.  The recycling bin in
the Social Hall is ready for your glass, aluminum and plastic ( we even
accept clean #1 and #2 types of plastic now.)  You may also deposit your
white, colored and newspaper in the front office receptacle.

We now have joined the Hawaii chapter of Interfaith Power and Light,
meeting with other congregations to take action to curb global warming.

Saturday, June 7 is National Trails Day.  Consider going on your own family
hike or join the Hawaii Sierra Club for its Membership Recruitment Outing.
They will be leading a hike on the Waimano trail (4
miles/Moderate/Ridge/Pearl City) You may join or renew when you do the
hike for the reduced rate of $25.00.  Contact: Gwen Sinclair 753-0528.

PLEASE SAVE THE DATE!!!  Sunday, August 24, 6:30 pm.  We will be having
the first Temple Eco Film night.  This informative, inspiring evening will be
a great way to start off the new year with knowledge and empowerment to
help with Tikkun Olam. More information regarding this event will be
forthcoming.

Eco-tip of the month on the subject of creating a healthy home, as
free of toxins as possible.  GET RID OF CONVENTIONAL CLEANERS!  Many
household cleaners contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and
hormone disrupters.  Use non-toxic, biodegradable cleaners free of
synthetic fragrances.  Or save money and go easy on the Earth by making
your own.  Use cheap and effective baking soda as an all-purpose cleaner,
scouring powder, polish, and fungicide. Or try the new microfiber cloths
that are designed to attract dirt without the need for any cleaning
product-chemical or otherwise.
IN OUR FAMILY
In this section of our E-Blast we will be putting items of information/interest about events which are happening in your
families.  Some will be
simchas.  Others may be life cycle events which have affected you family.  Please send your
items to Jack Bacon, Executive Director, Temple Emanu-El for inclusion in this section.
