SJS: K-7 Learning Experience

SJS Curricular Topics and Driving Questions

SJS is our Sunday learning experience for Kindergarten-7th grade at the JEC.  Beginning at 9:30 A.M. and ending at 12:30 P.M., learners will have an opportunity to “do Jewish” through an array of interactive learning opportunities.  Under the umbrella of the Jewish Experience Center, SJS is designed to expose learners to various components essential to the formation of a strong Jewish identity.  Each grade level has a core, age appropriate theme for the educational year.

Additionally, this year we are going even further in stimulating students’ curiosity and engaging them more effectively through project based learning.  Click HERE for more information on Project (or Problem) Based Learning (PBL). PBL is one of the best ways to help our learners connect and immerse themselves in their Jewish identity by moving them from the traditional religious school setting of listening about Judaism to really engaging in Judaism and taking ownership of it.

What does this mean for my child’s Jewish educational experience this year?

Project Based Learning begins with driving questions.  These questions help engage learners by giving them a desire to investigate further and deeper to find the answer.  Each lesson will relate back to this one driving question.  All grade level experiences at SJS are guided by this driving question.

Sign up for Shabbat in a Bag!

JEC students are invited to sign up for their Shabbat-in-a-Bag experience! It's everything you need for Shabbat in one place: candles, a Kiddush cup and juice, challah mix, a sheet with the blessings and more!

Families can sign up on our Doodle poll to experience Shabbat together before the bag is passed along to another family the next week.

How to use Doodle:
1. Enter your name
2. Find the date that works best for your family
3. Click “Done” when you have finished

Note: You will see other families signed up for their Shabbat-in-a-Bag experience. Once a spot is taken, a green checkmark will show up beneath the date and it will no longer be available. 2 families may sign up per week. You DO NOT need to create a Doodle account to participate.
